The FBI has arrested and charged Daniel Alan Baker, a radical left-wing activist, for plotting to violently attack pro-Trump demonstrators at Florida’s Capitol in Tallahassee. Baker, a disgraced former army veteran, planned to kidnap and injure others, issuing a “call to arms” to like-minded individuals to attack protesters expected at the state capital ahead of the Presidential Inauguration on January 20th, according to the US Attorney of Northern Florida, Lawrence Keefe.
“Daniel Baker’s actions show that he is a dangerous extremist, and the law-abiding public is safer now that he has been arrested,” said Keefe in a statement.
Baker has been charged with transmission of a threat to kidnap or injure, which can carry a 5-year prison sentence “for distributing flyers and posting a plan online to surround and attack pro-Trump protestors at the Florida Capitol this coming Sunday,” according to thepostmillenial.com. Rumors have been circulating on social media of possible protests at state capitals across the country. This sparked FL Governor Ron DeSantis to activate National Guard troops to Tallahassee through January 24th.
Baker posted a YouTube video on Thursday where he appears to be making photocopies of a flyer asking for support in attacking “armed racists” threatening violence at all capitol buildings. The flyer included the following words: “We will protect Capitol RESIDENTS an CIVILIANS from armed racist mobs with EVERY CALIBER AVAILABLE.” It continued, “This is an armed coup and can only be stopped by an armed community.”
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Baker had terrorist ties and had trained with a militant group in Syria in 2017. Baker also claims to be a trained sniper.
Baker posted another video by The Lincoln Project to which he added the title, “Florida politicians wont protect us” and a caption reading, “we protect us from trump mobs and we do so with guns.” The video, which contains some sensitive language and images, can be seen below. The video juxtaposes a clip of FL Sen. Rick Scott and footage from the Capitol Hill riots on January 6th.
