After receiving backlash for making negative comments about Meghan Markle, Good Morning Britain anchor Piers Morgan announced his resignation.
During Tuesday’s live show, Morgan stormed out of the studio after his colleague Alex Beresford brought up Morgan’s previous entanglement with Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.
While Beresford is providing his analysis, Morgan gets up from his seat and walks off the set. In the video, Morgan is heard saying “Sorry, can’t do this.”
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add,” ITV said in a statement, according to The Washington Post.
ITV confirmed Morgan’s departure to the BBC.
The Associated Press reports that the show was inundated with complaints of Morgan’s hostile comments about Markle and subsequently launched an investigation into him.
Morgan has been known for covering the ex-royals in an adversarial manner. In 2016, Morgan and Markle attended a pub together. According to Morgan, the two had a few drinks and then he called a cab for her. Piers alleges that she took the cab to a party and met Prince Harry that same night and he never heard from her again.
Morgan has yet to comment on his resignation, but earlier today he did tweet a GIF of a ticking clock.
