A family flying from Denver to Newark was left distraught after being kicked off their flight when their two-year-old resists the face mask being given.
In a viral video posted to Twitter by the mother, United Airlines is seen kicking the family off their flight and banning them from flying with the airline because their two-year-old daughter would not “comply” and wear a mask.
In the video, you can see the father trying multiple times to get his daughter to wear the face mask. A United Airlines staff then comes over to the family to tell them to exit the aircraft. “I gave you an opportunity,” the gentleman says as the father is holding the cloth over his daughter’s face.
Later in the video, the family is told their luggage is being sent to the destination without them. Many on Twitter have defended the family, a different reaction to what they received on the plane.
On the WHO official website, it is advised that children aged five and under should not be required to wear face masks; yet United’s guidelines are age two and up. The CDC also recommends children two and up wear a mask but have noted that those who cannot wear a mask properly should not wear one. Studies also show that young children wearing masks can be bad for their brain development, respiratory system, and overall health.
United Airlines has failed to comment on the incident.
