Democrat Ted Wheeler, Mayor and Police Commissioner of Portland Oregon had a press conference Sunday afternoon. This was just 4 hours after telling President Donald J. Trump to “stay away” from Portland and to stop offering Federal law enforcement to clean up the City. A city that has made world news for their continious violent riots which have lasted over almost 90 days.
Wheeler said “We want to protest here powerful and boldly. Lets used the power of our shared values to move together. We need to use the collective power of your officers to build together,” Wheeler said, signaling that he would not be calling on the National Gaurd.
Wheeler said that the Black Community would have to lead the changes and the people in the street to end the violence, that they would need to have the answers.
“I stand here with the police chief to denounce the violence. We have to all stop the violence. I am calling on people to stay away and let us deescalate the violence. Let’s pull together in the name of peace and humanity. What makes our nation is strong is that we can work together to build each other. We are going to re-imagine what racial justice and police reform can look like. We will engage in that work together,” Wheeler said.
Wheeler stated, “We have listed to all of your attacks, and now you are attacking Democrat mayors who have served us well. The voice is you who has created violence with your racism. “
Wheeler tended to talk about how he was working towards his community’s desire to end racism and have police reform, and that seems to be his focus. He is so dedicated to this idea, that he gave no investigative information on the murder that happened Saturday night.
GASLIGHTING
Refusing to acknowledge the real problem, making the problem worse, and then frame their opponent as the cause of the problem.
Mike Schmidt the newly elected District Attorney blamed the death on people going into his city to “terrorize” people, and talked about “systemic racism“. “It will take all of us together to stop the bleeding in our community,” Schmidt said.
Even after Wheeler has refused all law enforcement to address the violent riots in his community for close to 100 days, Wheeler says that it is Trump’s fault, stating, “We all saw this coming and I have said that we must address the violence and we must work together, and Trump must acknowledge the systematic violence.”
Wheeler went on a number of illogical rants, that did not address any issues in Portland.
