On Thursday, Joe Biden signed an executive order reinstating the funding for abortions overseas using American taxpayer dollars.
Biden referred to the abortion procedure as “women’s healthcare” and criticized the repeal of the funding by the Trump administration, calling it an “attack on women’s health.”
By signing the executive order, Biden claimed that it was “protecting women’s health at home and abroad, and it reinstates the changes that were made to Title 10 and other things, making it harder for women to have access to affordable healthcare as it relates to their reproductive rights.”
However, the consequences of the order are deadly, and many pro-life organizations are pushing back.
March for Life president Jeanne F. Mancini, tweeted that “Rescinding the Mexico City Policy on the eve of the March for Life is a deeply disturbing move,” especially for a party that preaches the message of “unity.” She also pointed out how out of touch with reality and with the American people the Biden administration is, claiming that the executive order is not in alignment with “the wishes of an overwhelming majority of Americans.” Polling suggests nearly “77% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortions overseas,” she said.
Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, also released a statement earlier this week stating, “Our 2021 Knights of Columbus/Marist poll…found that more than three-quarters of Americans agree that public funds should not be used to fund abortion abroad.” He further broke down the statistics stating, “This supermajority of Americans includes 55% of Democrats, 85% of independents, and 64% of pro-choice respondents.”
Founder of Live Action, Lila Rose, also took a strong stand against the executive order and instead stood for the life and dignity of the unborn. She tweeted out, “Killing a child is not healthcare” and rightly criticized Biden for his abhorrent action of forcing taxpayers to fund the murder of babies.
The order also received pushback from members of Congress, with 200 Republicans pledging to support the Hyde Amendment, which opposes taxpayer funding of abortion.
“Conservative Republicans are sending a strong statement to congressional leaders: We will not stand idle as radical Democrats work to end the ban on taxpayer-funded abortions,” Representative Jim Banks told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Newly elected Congressman Madison Cawthorn also tweeted about the immorality of abortion, asking the question, “When did issues of morality become a political pawn in a morbid game of partisan politicking?”
