Black Lives Matter protestors in Rochester, New York, surrounded a Wegmans store on Tuesday, forcing the store to lock its doors with around 100 customers still inside.
Protestors surrounded the store during protests relating to the one year anniversary of Daniel Prude’s killing by police officers.
Prude was restrained by officers while waiting for an ambulance. Prude had been taken to a local hospital regarding suicidal thoughts about
eight hours before his encounter with police.
Officers physically restrained Prude for around two minutes, during which he threw up and lost consciousness. He allegedly suffered severe brain damage during the encounter and was pulled off life support around a week later by his family.
An autopsy report “listed the cause of Prude’s death as ‘complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint due to excited delirium due to acute phencyclidine intoxication,’ an indication that Prude might have been high on PCP.”
