A China state-affiliated news outlet China Xinhua News has stated “Good Riddance, Donald Trump!” on their official Twitter page on inauguration day. The post on social media shows a picture of the nation’s Capitol in Washington D.C. with the statement written across, as well as the caption stating, “Good Riddance, Donald Trump!”
A link next to the caption brings you to an article from the China Xinhua News page that states, “Xinhua Commentary: Good riddance, Trump administration and its final madness.” The article written on January 16th starts out stating, “It should be noted, above all, that those politicians have clearly overestimated their ability to influence the course of China-U.S. relations.”
“Outwardly, they appear to be tough, but they are actually weak on the inside. They have also underestimated China’s strength and determination to take all measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.”
The article continues to criticize the Trump administration for implementing sanctions against individuals in Hong Kong for mass arrests of pro-democracy activists.
“Meanwhile, they also imposed new sanctions on six Chinese officials regarding Hong Kong issues, another example of their blatant act to interfere in China’s internal affairs, following the latest official interaction between the United States and China’s Taiwan region to challenge the one-China principle.”
The article goes on to call those moves as “irresponsible” and “poison” that are “attempting to promote selfish political interests at the cost of China-US. Relations.”
Towards the end of the piece, they state that the “anti-China policy” of the Trump administration will fail, and China will remain strong.
“Certain U.S. politicians have left a reputation of destroyers of the international order, world peace and stability, and human rights in the world. Time is short for them to wake up to this reality and cure their madness, which is a stain in world history of development.”
“On a final note: good riddance to the current U.S. administration and its final madness.”
Biden has previously stated that he wouldn’t immediately remove tariffs imposed on China by the Trump administration and wants to look at the current agreement with China.
Also during his inauguration speech, Biden emphasized to world leaders that America will be engaging in the world.
“So here’s my message to those beyond our borders: America has been tested, and we’ve come out stronger for it. We will repair out alliances and engage with the world once again – not to meet yesterday’s challenges, but today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.”
