The Chinese government is attempting to “buy out” the U.S. Congress by controlling American elections.
As reported in the National Review, Jin Canrong is a scholar at the Chinese Peoples’ University, and an advisor to the Chinese Communist Party. In speeches translated by staff from the National Review, Canrong lays out several goalposts for the Chinese government. One of these goalposts includes influencing U.S. elections in order to make Congress a “second Standing Committee of our People’s National Representatives.”
This is yet another brazen attempt by the Chinese government to exploit the United States. China is seeking to directly exert control over the U.S. Congress through the manipulation of elections in congressional districts. The United States House of Representatives has an unconstitutionally disproportionate ratio of Representatives to constituents (1: 750,000). Therefore, it would be relatively easy to control the voice of hundreds of thousands of Americans with influence over just one representative. Canrong lays out Chinese plans to exploit this structural weakness:
“Our government hopes that eventually China will have investments in each and every congressional district in the U.S., making it possible for China to control thousands of votes to influence congressional members’ stance toward China. In fact, the U.S. representatives can be controlled. The U.S. has 312 millions of people, who elect 435 representatives. That means 750,000 people in each district on average. The normal turnout rate is 30 percent, about 200,000 voters who determine who gets elected. Generally, the two contenders have about the same number of supporters, separated by only 10,000 votes or fewer. Therefore, if you control a few thousand votes, you would be his/her dad. China, if playing well, will be able to buy out the U.S., making the U.S. Congress the second Standing Committee of our People’s National Representatives.”
While Canrong recommends that China overtly take control of the U.S. Congress, China has already been attempting to exert control over America and the free world through more subtle means. Canrong lauded China’s “Belt and Road Initiative,” which seeks to exert control over developing countries through loans offered in bad faith. He also praised multiple other initiatives, such as Chinese military development in the South China Sea:
“Then, when the Americans found out that we were building a large island in the South Sea in June and expressed their concern, we told them that the construction was stopped. Whereas in fact, we stopped it only because a typhoon was coming in July, making it unsafe to continue the construction. The other reason for stopping the construction is a technological one: we had to wait to see the result of a new technology of blending sand with a special kind of water.” He continued, mocking American ignorance: “The Americans did not know the true reasons and were happy because we gave them ‘face.’”
If China is allowed to continue exerting control over the rest of free civilization, America will be next. Ignorance is only bliss until its dire consequences take place. It has come time to recognize China as an existential threat, and take measures to protect American elections and the American way of life. The Red Giant is only growing, and the United States must stand strong if we wish to continue the freedom of self-government.
