Anthony Fauci praised himself for the quick development of the coronavirus vaccine during a CNN coronavirus special Sunday night which saw both Fauci and Dr. Birx bashing Trump.
During the interview, Fauci took credit for the development of the vaccines without mentioning former President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, the New York Post pointed out.
Fauci was one of the main guests interviewed by CNN’s Sanjay Gupta for “COVID WAR: The Pandemic Doctors Speak Out.”
“Yeah, when I saw what happened in New York City, almost overrunning of our health care system, it was like, Oh my goodness, said Fauci. “And that’s when it became very clear that the decision we made on January the 10th — to go all out and develop a vaccine — may have been the best decision that I’ve ever made with regard to an intervention as director of the institute.”
Fauci did not give credit to Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, which gave billions of dollars to pharmaceutical companies to develop the coronavirus vaccine quickly.
Fauci’s superior, National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, praised the Trump Administration’s efforts in developing the vaccine with “breathtaking” speed.
“The Operation Warp Speed, for which I give a great deal of credit to [former HHS] Secretary [Alex] Azar, was an effort that many of us were not initially convinced was going to be necessary,” he told Axios on HBO last month.
“Based on their interviews, I felt it was time to speak up about Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, two self-promoters trying to reinvent history to cover for their bad instincts and faulty recommendations, which I fortunately almost always overturned,” said Trump in response to Dr Fauci and Dr. Birx statements on CNN. “They had bad policy decisions that would have left our country open to China and others, closed to reopening our economy, and years away from an approved vaccine — putting millions of lives at risk.”
