House Republicans want answers. And they want them ASAP.
All 18 GOP members of the House Oversight Committee are demanding that committee hold an emergency hearing to investigate Twitter and Facebook’s censorship of the New York Post’s story on Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. In a letter obtained by Fox News, GOP leadership says the hearing is even more warranted since Biden revealed he is under federal investigation for his “tax affairs.”
“Reporting indicates this investigation is related to his overseas business dealings,” the House Republicans said in their letter. “In light of Hunter Biden’s admission that he is under investigation, especially after Big Tech’s unjustifiable censorship of the New York Post’s report, we are renewing our hearing request.”
House Republicans first requested this hearing on Oct. 15 after Big Tech suppressed the distribution of the story in the lead-up to the 2020 Election.
Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, have each previously testified before the Senate, which has a GOP majority, over the NY Post story censorship.
President Donald Trump has long called for the removal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996. Section 230 essentially offers any “interactive computer service” (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) broad immunity from being treated as a publisher.
Most recently, Trump threatened to veto the $740 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) because it did not repeal Section 230.
