The owner of the largest pro-Trump Facebook Fan Page, and cofounder of Spreely, a social network devoted to preserving free speech & a direct competitor with Facebook, woke up on Sunday to find his account was permanently deleted from Facebook.
Mark received the following notice:
‘Your Account Has Been Disabled’
‘For more information, or if you think your account was disabled by mistake, please visit the Help Center.’
Mark states that he followed the link to the Help Center and supplied a copy of his ID as prompted by the form, only to instantly be told that:
‘We Cannot Review The Decision To Disable Your Account’
‘Your Facebook account was disabled because it did not follow our Community Standards. The decision can’t be reversed.’
Mark told The RFAngle that he can not recall the last time he had content removed for violating the community standards, adding that it “must have been years ago as I am exceedingly cautious about following all of Facebook’s rules due to the constant threat of ‘deplatforming.”
Mr. Sidney also explained that it has been many months since his large public pages (Donald Trump Is Our President [3.2M fans] & Hillary For Prison [1.2M Fans]) have received a flag for false or misleading content. Mark not only has his public Facebook page removed, but also his personal profile and the profile of his wife were removed as well. These pages had no strikes, or pending flags on them.
The deleted public page, which was formerly located at /TheRealMarkSidney, merely posted a few memes a week. A majority of these memes can also be found on his Instagram account: ‘donaldtrump_is_our_president.’ – None of which are dangerous or allude to rules being broken.
Mark then reached out to a contact he had at Facebook. The representative responded and noted that they were looking into the reason as to why Mark and his wife were banned for life from Facebook.
The Facebook representative told Mark that ‘Upon re-review, our team determined this was a correct removal. When we remove pages and groups for violating our Dangerous Individuals & Organization Policy, we also remove the profiles that admin the page or group.’
Perplexed, Mark visited the link provided to find that he and his wife were apparently being accused of being terrorists, mass murders, human traffickers, involved in organized violence or criminal activity, or being sympathetic to individuals who are.
Mark told the RFAngle that the only rational he could think of that would justify his ‘deplatforming’ is if Facebook has now declared support for Trump as a ‘terrorist activity’, ‘organized hate,’ or one of the other egregious offenses on the list above.
‘It seems that Facebook has labeled me a dangerous terrorist, ‘deplatforming’ me using the same justification as they use to remove ISIS from the platform. My page was dedicated to my political view point, which includes supporting President Trump and conservative values, the only logical conclusion I can draw is that, in Facebook’s eyes, supporting President Trump is now ‘support or praise for groups, leaders, or individuals involved in these activities,” ‘these activities’ being terrorism, mass murder and/or organized hate.’
Mark is not the only one who has been dealing with the digital purges that the major social media companies have been engaging in. Ever since the original ‘purge‘ on October 11th 2018, in which roughly 559 Pages and 251 accounts, largely political and supportive of President Trump, were deleted, 3 weeks before the midterm elections, Trump supporters have been dropping like flies on the ‘platform for all ideas.’
Mark Urges people who are weary about the increasing censorship, not only of conservatives, but anyone who values freedom of expression, to sign up for Spreely.com, a Facebook alternative who boasts that the 1st Amendment is their community standard. Sidney also suggested creating and building your presence on Parler, Rumble, MeWe and any other platform who vows to honor your God given right to speak freely in the public square.
