On Wednesday, Trump’s legal advisor, Jenna Ellis, shared a message with the American people urging those with concerns over the 2020 general election’s integrity not to lose hope.
She told The Epoch Times‘ American Thought Leaders, “I would just say to the American people: Take heart. This is not over yet. And we absolutely have every intention of continuing to fight for election integrity.”
Ellis further urged “the state legislatures to do their constitutionally mandated job by making sure the delegates that they send and they certify are the correct slate.”
Her hopeful encouragement and call to action came after the Republican electors in seven states cast their votes for Donald J. Trump, thus sending dual electors to Congress. The dual electors pose a new dynamic on Jan. 6, when Congress meets to count the Electoral College votes. Historically, alternate votes have been accepted by Congress, so nothing is off the table.
Ellis added that the American people have a responsibility to hold their elected officials accountable. “We can do that through not only contacting them and through putting pressure on them to continuing this fight, not only in the media, but also to know that that’s what we expect of them–to take election integrity seriously,” she added.
While the Trump campaign and legal team are still “pushing for election integrity to make sure that every legal vote is counted and counted fairly,” Ellis also called upon every state to look into their own election laws and administration to ensure that free and fair elections prevail into the future.
She further stated, “It’s incumbent, though, upon every American–regardless of who you voted for, whether or not you like the outcome of this election–to stop any cheating, to stop any lawlessness, to stop anything that runs afoul to the U.S. Constitution to make sure to protect free and fair elections.”
