Many people have expressed criticism of President Biden after he appeared to forget the name of his Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Monday morning.
Biden struggled to remember the name of his cabinet pick during a press conference geared towards celebrating International Women’s Day. During the conference, Biden announced his picks to lead the US Southern Command, Air Force Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost and Army Lt. Gen. Laura Richardson, who are both women.
“I want to thank you both and I want to thank the sec-, the, the, ugh, the former general, I keep calling him general but my, my, ugh, the guy who runs that outfit over there,’ said Biden. “I want to make sure we thank the secretary for all he’s done to try to implement what we’ve just talked about and for recommending these two women for promotion. Thank you all and God bless you all and may God protect our troops.”
Earlier during the event, he successfully stated the secretary’s name while likely reading from a telepromptor.
Biden, who is 78, previously struggled to state the name of his Health and Human Services pick, Xavier Becerra.
Democrat Bryan Dean Wright, who is a former CIA officer, stated that “this is why we have the 25th Amendment.”
