Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said President Trump should be prosecuted and that “nothing is off the table” in an interview with 60 Minutes that will be televised on Sunday.
“Sadly, the person that’s running the Executive branch is a deranged, unhinged, dangerous president of the United States,” said Pelosi during the interview.
“And we’re only a number of days until we can be protected from him. But he has done something so serious that there should be prosecution against him,” continued Pelosi.
When pressed by 60 Minutes Correspondent Lesley Stahl whether the 25th Amendment is an option still, Nancy Pelosi said, “No it isn’t. Nothing is off the table.”
The 25th Amendment allows the sitting president to be removed from the office if the vice president and a majority of the cabinet or Congress agree to the removal. Vice President Mike Pence says he is opposed to invoking the 25th Amendment.
House Democrats are planning on introducing articles of impeachment against Trump on Monday. Impeachment is unlikely to remove him from office before his term is expired.
Calls for impeachment come after pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol, causing damage and forcing Congress into a lockdown.
