Early last week, a viral video of a mall Santa making little Mikey DeCarlo cry after refusing to promise him Nerf guns for Christmas took the internet and media by storm. Mikey’s grandmother recorded the video, and within hours of posting it, Americans of all backgrounds were sending messages of support for Mikey.
The NRA posted the video across their social media platforms and got in touch with Mikey’s mom, Sabella DeCarlo. Sabella responded within minutes, proclaiming her husband Michael “is going to lose it” he found out the NRA reached out. Michael is a police officer, an NRA firearms instructor, and a lifetime member of the NRA.
The NRA’s team took it a step further and flew out to Illinois and surprised Mikey with a pro-gun Santa, an arsenal of Nerf guns, and a custom NRA life member vest. Mikey rips his presents open and challenges Santa to a Nerf war on the video, which has already amassed over one million views in under twenty-four hours. Mikey states, “Mean Santa won’t be happy I have this,” while holding his new Nerf gun.
Santa leaves the DeCarlo house and proclaims, “the North Pole doesn’t need any commies!”
NRA’s video ends with Sabella talking about the outpouring of support from all Americans and how “Santa’s job is not to lecture us on politics.” Officer DeCarlo thanks his fellow NRA members for fighting for our rights and supporting police officers. He also announces Mikey as a new life member of the NRA.
Social media, especially Twitter, can often be toxic, but it is hard to find a negative comment on the NRA’s video. Jenna Ellis, counsel to President Donald J. Trump, tweeted, “I LOVE THIS. Go, NRA!” Dinesh D’Souza tweeted the video proclaiming, “The NRA just showed up to his house and gave him the surprise of his life.” Congresswoman-Elect Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Andrew Pollack, actor Isaiah Washington retweeted the video amongst many more.
Valerie, a mother of two, tweeted, “New lifetime member. It was so not that [Santa’s] place. Good on you.” Andrew, an outdoorsman, tweeted, “Everyone give NRA memberships for Christmas!” A video producer, Kyler, tweeted, “I’m not crying freedom tears, you are.”
Let’s give it up for the NRA on this one. But let’s also not forget how crucial they are in the fight to protect our rights. For 149 years, the NRA has been the only thing consistently standing in the way of anti-gun activists, politicians, and elitists destroying our Second Amendment. Millions of new Americans became first-time gun owners in 2020 following a pandemic, riots, and societal unrest.
I have always been a proud life member of the NRA, and I encourage you to join. The NRA will be crucial in Americans keeping our guns in the years and decades to come. Don’t wait! Join the NRA today or if you’re already a member, gift an NRA membership. Text SANTA to 60937 or visit nra.org/2020 to JOIN the NRA!
