Los Angles Police Department reported that a SWAT Team was deployed to Woodland Hills California because shots were fired from an apartment building as a Caravan of Cars covered with flags to support President Donald J. Trump, was hit and blew out a tire. No injuries were reported at the time.
Reports of up to 100 cars driving down Ventura Boulevard were posted online and some opponents of Trump were upset claiming that his supporters were terrorizing them.
However, the Caravan seemed to be droving peacefully for 10 miles from Woodland Hills to Studio City.
It was reported that the shooter had been located in his apartment and had barricaded himself in a bathroom. However, The Los Angeles Police reported later:
“The Los Angeles Police Department SWAT Team has surrounded three suspects holed up in an apartment complex following a shooting at a pro-Trump caravan in the San Fernando Valley.
Police responded to a report of gunshots at a caravan rally in support of President Donald Trump in the 20600 block of Ventura Boulevard at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. No one was wounded in the shooting.
Police have three suspects barricaded at the scene, and Ventura Boulevard has been shut down for hours, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.”
The Caravan happened at the same time as a Black Lives Matter Rally was going on in the same area.
The even was well received in the area, where people had a welcoming committee set up of Trump supporters with flags and signs. There were also confrontations from people who were protesting the caravan
“It’s still a fluid situation,” The Police Chief said.
The violence is the latest in a series of clashes nationwide between groups protesting police brutality and right-wing groups organizing pro-Trump caravans. The caravans appear to be targeting police protest hotspots such as Portland and Los Angeles.
