Pictures and videos flooded twitter of the protestors occupying the Senate Chamber. Additionally, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed “he heard radio transmission of a Capitola police officer announcing ‘shots fired’ inside the building.”

Reports have come in that Capitol Police are now attempting to regain control of the building.

President Donald Trump reiterated his message for protestors to remain peaceful in a new tweet. Trump reminded protestors that “we are the Party of Law & Order.” His daughter, Ivanka trump, echoed that message shortly afterwards.

I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!

The protests began after Vice President Mike Pence announced that he did not have the power to “accept or reject votes unilaterally.”
