Former President Donald Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy have recently met in Florida to discuss a GOP House takeover for the 2022 midterms, according to Fox News.
A statement published on McCarthy’s website announced the meeting between the two as well as a tweet that was sent out on Jan. 28.
“United and ready to win in ’22,” McCarthy tweeted.
McCarthy began the statement by highlighting the relationship between House GOP members and the Trump administration.
“House Republicans and the Trump administration achieved historic results for all Americans” McCarthy started. “We were able to do this because we listened to and understood the concerns of our fellow citizens that had long been ignored. As a result, House Republicans defied the experts and the media by expanding our growing coalition across the country.”
McCarthy then began to discuss the details of the meeting while also briefly mentioning the agenda of the Democrat Congress.
“Today, President Trump committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022,” the statement continued. “A Republican majority will listen to our fellow Americans and solve the challenges facing our nation. Democrats, on the other hand, have only put forward an agenda that divides us — such as impeaching a President who is now a private citizen and destroying blue-collar energy jobs. For the sake of our country, the radical Democrat agenda must be stopped.”
“A united conservative movement will strengthen the bonds of our citizens and uphold the freedoms our country was founded on” McCarthy concluded.
Democrats currently hold a slight majority in the House with a 221-211 advantage over the GOP.
Furthermore, according to an article from Fox News, the meeting that between Trump and McCarthy, which took place at Palm Beach, was organized after Trump’s team heard that McCarthy was fundraising in Florida in an effort to replace current Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, after the 2022 midterms.
Trump’s team released the details of the meeting to the media the same day as the meeting took place. Fox News reports that McCarthy rearranged his schedule in order to meet with the former president at Mar-a-lago.
