Following the violence and lawlessness at the Capitol that took place on Jan. 6th, President Trump released a video to address the nation.
Trump denounced the demonstrators who participated in the attack, stating they “do not represent the country.” He reminded the American people that “America is and must always be a nation of law and order.”
Trump also reassured his supporters that he and his team pursued every possible legal avenue to challenge the election results and that his “only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote” and fight to “defend American democracy.”
He also continued his call for the reform of election laws to ensure “faith and confidence” in future elections as well as “a renewed emphasis on the civic values of patriotism, faith, charity, community, and family.”
Most notably, President Trump acknowledged Congress’s certification of the election results stating that “A new administration will be inaugurated on Jan. 20th. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation.”
He concluded, “To the citizens of our country, serving as your president has been the honor of my lifetime. And to all of my wonderful supporters, I know you are disappointed, but I also want you to know our incredible journey is only just beginning.”
